The painter's pen is implanted on the top of each wing of the woodcock.
At the phalanx of the second finger, this small pointed feather, about 3 cm, is light beige in color and is marked with brown speckles. It is small and pointed in the shape of a spearhead, flexible and rigid at the same time.
Painters on paper or porcelain canvas chose it for this characteristic which allowed them to apply color with precision and finesse. It is also called a brush or surrémige. In the Middle Ages, it was used to make illuminations.
Due to its fragility, each feather can only cover a small area of a drawing.
The woodcock has plumage the same color as the woods it inhabits, it remains hidden all day and often succeeds in deceiving the dog and the hunter.
Mechanism in high quality 12 C 27 carbon stainless steel from the Forges de Thiers, the world capital of cutlery.
