It happens that part of the defense takes on natural blue-green hues due to the presence of an iron phosphate, vivianite.
Blue mammoth ivory remains one of the rarest and most difficult materials to collect. The crust, very hard, is the first layer of the tusk in contact with the ground.
Extinct more than 10,000 years ago, mammoths are currently found in the permafrost (eternal frost) in Siberia. With global warming, these hostile lands are revealing, on the surface, remains of mammoths in a perfect state of preservation.
