Royal ebony from Laos is an even more precious wood than black ebony from Africa.
Very rare wood of creamy white color with black veins, very distinct. It is one of the most expensive woods in the world. It is the only ebony species to grow in Asia. Only the white part was used for this knife.
It is a slow growing tree.
In this species, the heartwood (the one with black and white veins) is of low proportion compared to the diameter of the tree: approximately 50%.
As early as the 12th century, ebony was considered one of the most precious woods in Europe. It was used to make small objects (boxes, knife handles, chess sets, etc.). In the 17th century, it was possible to cut it into very thin plates that specialists glued onto richly decorated furniture.
It is still today a highly sought-after species in cabinetmaking.
Superb graining
The piece of wood that was used to make this particular knife is sublime, it is quite rare to find such grain.
Each of our knives is unique.
