Amboine wood comes from Asia, Singapore, the Moluccas, Borneo and Amboine in Indonesia. With its scientific name Pterocarpus indicus, Amboine wood, also called "dragon's blood", is used in art cutlery as well as in marquetry or veneer, it is a precious species whose magnifying glass reveals patterns of uncommon delicacy.
The exotic wood of Amboine or Kiaboca is considered one of the most beautiful ornamental woods. Its rich and tortuous veins of reddish, pinkish white or yellowish design intertwine in a multitude of very fine knots that cross in a thousand different ways.
It is used in cabinetmaking as very thin veneer, inlays, marquetry or ornamental fillets because of its high price.
Furniture and objects made of wood from Amboine are luxury products. There are boxes, writing cases, liquor cabinets, etc.
Amboyna burl was widely used in fine furniture of the Restoration period and throughout the Art Deco period.
Amboyna burl wood veneer is often used on automobile dashboards and was the first burl veneer to be offered in Rolls Royce automobiles.
Known for its intertwined colors of red, orange, brown and yellow, the Amboyna burl is undoubtedly one of the most popular species in the forest.
